About me:
My name is Meagan and I have been teaching Music since 2012. I enjoy watching my students and their parents love of music grow.
I started my career teaching Piano and Voice lessons at Saks Music in Calgary. In 2013 I began my own private music business traveling to students homes to teach. That same year I began a job with Gymboree Play and Music where I taught play and music classes to children 6 months to 5 years and their parents.
In 2014 I started a Bachelors of Education (Elementary Education) and graduated in 2016. I began to substitute teach for the Calgary Board of Education and was hired full time as a Music Specialist at Annie Foote School for September 2017. I taught there for 3 years before moving down to Lethbridge to work at Dr. Gerald Probe as their Music Specialist. I taught there for about 2 years after which I decided to pursue the Music for Young Children (MYC) Program and teaching private Piano, Voice, Theory and History full time.
With my background in Early Childhood Music I created and offer Baby and Toddler music classes in my studio. These classes are a great way for parents and children to bond through moving, singing and play instruments together.
Throughout my career I have seen the successes that come when parents and children work together to learn music. Students stick with music longer and often understand why music is so important. I look forward to working with you and your child(ren) to develop a life-long love and appreciation of playing and creating music.
Education:
I have a Bachelor of Arts and Science Degree (specialization in Music and Psychology) from the University of Lethbridge, Masters of Education (specialization in Counselling Psychology) from the University of New Brunswick and a Bachelor of Elementary Education from Ambrose University. I have completed advanced Piano and Voice levels through the Royal Conservatory of Music and am a RCM Certified Teacher and Orff Specialist. Currently I am working on a Masters in Elementary Education (specialization in Music Education) through the University of Alberta. I also continue to take Piano, Voice and Theory lessons to learn new techniques to help my students learn and grow.
